What does this mean and why? Read on.
WHAT IS SUMMER SHIPPING?
While many companies may discontinue shipping of products such as Body Butters during the hot months Nearly Naked Skin will continue offering it.It is one of our most popular items and we would have some very unhappy customers if they couldn't get it through the summer.
We have made some accommodations to make shipping things that might melt during the summer more feasible. All packages that contain products that might melt are shipped during high heat times will be packed in thermal wrap and contain ice/gel packs (these are reusable so that you can get some use out of them too!) All summer orders containing these products will be shipped USPS priority mail so as to get it to you as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Products will ONLY be shipped on a day that ensures the shortest travel time to you. If you are 2 days priority mail from me, I will not ship later in the week then Weds early afternoon so that you receive it by Friday. If you are one day Priority mail from me, I will ship up to Thursday morning. 3 days Priority mail will not ship after Tues afternoon. This is to ensure that your package is not sitting on a hot warehouse all weekend.
WHY IS THIS AN ISSUE?
As a formulator, I love creating skin and body care products that contain as little or no extra added chemicals. I keep things as natural as possible. SOME of my products are effected by temperature....and do not contain synthetic ingredients to make it more temperature stable. The products that are affected by this are anhydrous (water free) and so are not emulsified. Emulsifiers can help keep it temperature stable as well. It is important to me that the products have the highest concentration of skin loving, vitamin loaded decadent ingredients possible. Your product will be packaged accordingly if required.
WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
We can only send it on it's way in with the best chance we can offer it for survival in the heat. We can not control what happens once USPS drops it off to you. Mailboxes can get insanely hot in the summer as can packages left out on a porch, in the sun, on a hot day.
We ask that you keep an eye out on tracking so you can grab your package as soon as it arrives or that you request it be shipped to your work if no one will be home to take it out of the heat.
My PRODUCTS MELTED ANYWAY HELP!
If your product does melt or gets soft, in spite of the efforts we have made to prevent it, please don't worry! A melted product is not a bad product.... I promise.
Leave your product at room temperature for a couple of hours or pop it in the fridge or freezer for a bit and it'll go back to a solid . It may look a little different but it will still be the same super nourishing balm. It will still go on easily, sink in quickly and leave your skin feeling and smelling amazing.
WHICH PRODUCTS DOES THIS EFFECT?
Body Balms/Butters that are made of only butters and oils and do not contain any water or other ingredients that can help to prevent melting are the most sensitive to heat of all the products offered. This will be one to really watch for.. If you receive this product and it is soft or melted, use something like a chopstick to give it a good mix and then, if melted, pop it in the fridge for a little while, or is softened, leave it on a cool counter top for a bit.
Sugar Scrubs that are not emulsified can be effected by the heat. again if this is a whipped sugar scrub and the butter is noticeably melted, give a a stir and pop in the fridge for a bit.
TIPS FOR CARE AFTER DELIVERY
Now that you gotten your products safe and sound, here are a couple of notes for caring for your products after you have retrieved them...
1. DO NOT LEAVE PRODUCTS IN CAR!
Cars can get VERY hot in the summer and the excessive heat can quickly melt products, the continual melting and hardening as you crank up the air conditioning and then melt again as it heats up after you leave again is not good for the product.
2. KEEP PRODUCT AWAY FROM DIRECT SUNLIGHT FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME.
This can also change the texture and stability of your product, and even melt it in some cases. Some of the oils used are very delicate and sensitive to the UV rays from the sun.It's best to keep the product in cool places out of direct sunlight.
